Flexible trading

By combining balancing services with energy trading, you can unlock additional value. Our trading services utilize flexibility so that the amount of energy consumed optimizes the levels of electricity bought and sold on the trading market. Our advanced software forecasts how much electricity will be produced and consumed on a given day and finds the most optimal way for our customers to reduce their energy bills.
How it works

Benefits of flexible trading

Money savings

Consume electricity when it is cheapest to reduce your energy bills.

Valuable Assets

Heat pumps or resistance heaters can easily be connected to the Sympower platform. Ovens, boilers, space heaters, drying facilities, smelting processes, combined heat and power plants, district heating networks and so on can all temporarily be turned up or down without affecting operations. When there is a shortage of electricity on the grid, the heating temporarily gets turned down or off, while staying within the predetermined acceptable limits. When there is too much electricity on the grid, or the electricity price is low, more heat can be produced. Later this pre-heating will be corrected by turning the heating down.
Cooling systems such as air conditioning or cold storage can account for a large percentage of an electricity bill. With Sympower, you can reduce your electricity expenses, without affecting your business operations. Contribute to a more efficient energy system by connecting your cooling system and generate extra revenue doing so.
Certain types of ventilation systems are exceptionally suited to participation in sustainable balancing of the energy grid. By temporarily turning up or down the ventilation power, you can boost your bottom line without noticing any interference to your business operations. At the same time, significant energy savings can also be realised.
Lighting systems, especially those that generate heat such as HPS lights, are an excellent asset that can produce extra revenue for your business. Shut downs are short enough that, for example, growing cycles aren’t affected.
Steam turbines of gas and coal power plants are the traditional source of flexibility for ancillary services for the grid operators. Also steam turbines from waste incinerators or other industries which can be leveraged to provide flexibility to the grid operators in a more efficient and sustainable way.
Pumps, whether part of a primary process or an auxiliary system, are an excellent source of flexibility for the electricity grid. Auxiliary water systems, for example, can be used to help balance the grid in a sustainable way and generate extra revenue.
The inherent flexibility of a combined heat and power plant makes it a valuable asset for providing services to the grid. Heat and power output can be adjusted according to the needs of the grid and the processes that are being supplied with heat, while staying within regulatory and safety limits
Aeration, often the first significant process in a wastewater treatment system, can in many cases be integrated into the Sympower platform and provide significant amounts of flexibility for grid operators, generating additional revenue to treatment plants.
Industrial drying processes generally account for a significant proportion of a facility’s energy bill. It is also a very flexible process, providing a good opportunity for reducing the energy bill and carbon footprint at the same time, with no upfront investment.
Mining, whether physical or virtual, are suitable processes for providing grid services. Boost your revenues and contribute to the energy transition, by tapping into the potential flexibility in mining processes.
Batteries and other energy storage technologies will be an essential part of the future electricity system. Explore the opportunities with Sympower to improve the business case of your current or future battery systems.
The transition from the internal combustion engine to electric vehicles presents significant challenges for the electricity grid, but also opportunities. Sympower works with fleet owners and manufacturers to help turn the charging of electric vehicles into a valuable service for local and national grid operators.
While potentially counter intuitive, sometimes it’s beneficial for the grid to turn down the production from solar panels, for example in a congested region. Sympower can respond to the needs of the grid instantly, by monitoring and managing the output from small and large pv-sources.
Wind turbines, when connected to the Sympower platform, can provide various modes of flexibility to the grid, increasing the business case and improving returns on your investment.
Mixers, in for example the chemical industry and in waste treatment processes, can be turned into a flexible resource by connecting them to the Sympower platform. Reduce your electricity bill, while providing services to the electricity grid, contributing to a clean energy system.
Crushing processes are well suited for taking part on the Sympower platform. The flexibility of these processes can be monetised on various electricity markets.
Unlock the flexibility of your electrolysis processes by connecting to the Sympower platform. Electrolysis can provide various grid services, contributing to a more sustainable electricity system and generating extra revenues at the same time.
There is a lot of untapped flexibility in the industrial sector. All electrical assets have a flexibility potential. Reach out if you think your assets consumption/production can participate to a more stable grid.
